963 bombs discovered, defused in Kano –CP                                   The Police in Kano State yesterday said they had recovered and defused a total of 963 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) of different calibre, including two suicide-primed car bombs in the state from January 20 to date.


Twenty six of these explosives, according to the police, were recovered in the last one month, saying some of the devices were recovered at the Federal College of Education, Kano on July 31, 10 others discovered at Rijar Zaki, along Jamblock Estate and one explosive recovered at the New Site of Bayero University, Kano on the August 1, 2012.
Speaking during the command’s press briefing at the officers’ mess, Bompai, Kano State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, said fortunately all the explosive devices were successfully defused without causing injury or harm to any person.
According to him, the police had also retrieved 10 rounds of ammunition, two pistols, 13 Pump Action Rifle, one Air Rifle , one AK 47, rifle, two AK 47 rifle, 45 rounds of ammunition, nine Double Barrel and 226 cartridges from different suspected criminals in the state.
Giving insight into some of the recovered exhibits, the police boss said on August 1, one Alhaji Abubakar of Mandawari Quarters in Kano was arrested for being in possession of a pistol. He said subsequent investigation, which was extended to Kaduna, led to the arrest of of Matthew, Dormini and Umarawaru from whom illegal arms and an expired firearms license were recovered.
He added that 102 suspects were taken into custody following various preventive raids carried out by the police on a number of black spots in the state, 86 of which he said had been charged to court after the screening of the command.
Similarly, six Yandabas (Area Boys) were arrested for criminal conspiracy, being in possession of dangerous weapons and quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Among them were Ahmed, Dalhatu, Na ‘Annabi, Abubakar ,Rabiu and Ayuba.
